Microsoft has launched an AI training program aimed at expanding access to AI skills by providing free coursework. Developed in collaboration with LinkedIn, the training courses will cover introductory concepts of artificial intelligence and frameworks for responsible AI. The courses will be made available on the LinkedIn Learning platform and initially launched only in English. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be awarded a certificate of completion in Career Essentials. Microsoft is also planning to provide a trainer toolset that includes an AI course designed for teachers. The guide is aimed at trainers within enterprises and educational institutions.
The lack of AI skills is a growing concern for many businesses, with more than two in five IT leaders expressing concern about the capacity of their teams to accept the expanding use of AI. To address this issue, Microsoft and Google are providing free access to training to encourage businesses to embrace their products. In May, Google introduced a collection of generative AI training courses covering topics such as image creation, image captioning models, encoder-decoder architecture, transformer, and BERT models.
Microsoft’s AI skills project also includes a worldwide grant program to collect additional ways to train people on generative AI. The funding initiative aims to encourage organizations that are focusing on equitable and community-led applications of generative AI with historically excluded populations. Applications are open to academic or research institutions, social entrepreneurs, and nonprofit organizations. The selected cohort will receive monetary assistance in addition to access to resources for cloud computing based on Azure, data training, and technical coaching from specialists employed by Microsoft and GitHub.
Overall, Microsoft’s AI training program is a step towards closing the gaps in AI skills required for timely implementation. By providing free access to training, Microsoft is empowering enterprises to embrace AI and personalize the plethora of AI technologies that are now available on the market.
